Bug Barrels at Hampton Court
Back to News & Blogs
The children from Shawley Community Primary School participated in the RHS Schools Bug Barrels at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival 2023.
The children were actively involved in creating a butterfly haven at school. From planting seeds and watching the flowers grow to making butterfly feeders using beads and recyclable materials, they were engaged in various activities to attract butterflies. Adding fruit for the butterflies to eat shows their thoughtfulness and consideration for the needs of these beautiful creatures.
The children's creativity shines through in their butterfly designs, which are proudly displayed on the bug barrel. Designing and decorating their own butterflies was an exciting and meaningful project for them.
Creating flowers from the bottom and the lids of plastic bottles was an innovative way to promote recycling while adding to the colourful display. It's great to see the children's enthusiasm for repurposing materials and contributing to an eye-catching bucket full of flowers.
Being invited to Hampton Court to see their bug barrel on display was a real honour for the selected children. Exploring the flower festival and engaging in a forest school session provided them with valuable learning experiences and a chance to appreciate the beauty of nature. Meeting knowledgeable exhibitionists who shared their expertise and passion for gardening was an inspiring encounter for the children.
